Primary Outcome

The primary outcome of the VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy is to prepare you to enter a specific sector and job role. All the units in this qualification relate directly to the specific job role of a junior beauty therapist.

Overview

The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy is a substantial vocational qualification for learners seeking a career as a junior beauty therapist. This qualification is designed for learners aged 16 years or over and will support you to gain employment as a junior beauty therapist, as the units contained in this qualification cover all the skills and knowledge required for this role. Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of a Level 1 qualification in beauty therapy and/or a successful skills test and interview.

This is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a junior therapist including, mandatory units covering the following: facial skincare, waxing, eyelash and eyebrow treatments, manicure, pedicure, client care and health and safety.

You will also have the opportunity to further develop your understanding and skills by selecting a number of optional specialist units which include: the application of tanning techniques, applying make-up and instruction on make-up application, removing hair using alternatives to wax such as threading or sugaring, eyelash perming, ear piercing or the creative skill of nail art, reception duties and displaying stock to promote sales. The structure of this qualification provides you with the flexibility to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills required to become a junior beauty therapist.

VTCT Level 2 Award in Eyelash & Eyebrow Treatments

The VTCT Level 2 Award in Eyelash and Eyebrow Treatments is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in shaping (tweezers) and colouring (tinting eyelashes and eyebrows). You will learn how to maintain the original eyebrow shape or to change the shape of the eyebrow if desired. You will also learn about different colour characteristics and the chemical process of tinting.

The purpose of this qualification is to develop your practical skills to a high level of occupational ability to enable you to provide shaping and colouring treatments for the eyelashes and eyebrows.

VTCT Level 2 Award in Eyelash Perming

The VTCT Level 2 Award in Eyelash Perming is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in; how to provide eyelash perming.

Underpinning this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety practices in a salon environment and how to promote client care and communications in beauty related industries. You will also develop an underpinning knowledge and understanding of the practical skills learned throughout this qualification.

The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in beauty therapy to a high level of occupational ability, to enable you to perform your own salon services.

VTCT Level 2 Award in Facial Skincare and Massage

The VTCT Level 2 Award in Facial Massage and Skin Care is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in; how to provide facial skin care.

Underpinning this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety practices in a salon environment and how to promote client care and communications in beauty related industries. You will also develop an underpinning knowledge and understanding of the practical skills learned throughout this qualification.

The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in beauty therapy to a high level of occupational ability, to enable you to perform your own salon services.

VTCT Level 2 Award in Shaping and Colouring Eyebrows

The VTCT Level 2 Award in Shaping and Colouring Eyebrows is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in shaping (tweezers) and colouring (tinting eyebrows). VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Indian Head Massage

Who is this qualification for?

The VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Indian Head Massage is a vocational qualification aimed at learners aged 16+ who want to study this subject on a flexible basis.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification although it is likely that learners will hold associated level 2 or 3 equivalent qualifications in similar or complementary subjects.

The primary outcome of the VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Indian Head Massage is to prepare you to enter the hairdressing; beauty and complementary therapy sector as a specialist massage therapist, with the specific skill of providing Indian head massage treatments. All the units in this qualification relate directly to the role of a specialist massage therapist.

What does this qualification cover?

The VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Indian Head Massage is a vocationally related qualification that will prepare you to provide Indian head massage treatments to a high level of occupational ability, to enable you to provide your own services for clients.

This is a vocationally related qualification and includes all the required elements to develop your practical skills. The four mandatory units include the practical and theoretical knowledge required to provide Indian head services and monitoring and maintaining health and safety practices in the salon, to ensure all treatments are carried out with health and safety as a priority. The two remaining mandatory units provide the wider skills required to be a successful therapist of client care and communication in beauty-related industries and promote and sell product s and services. Both of these units address the need for a successful therapist to understand the importance of retail and client care.

Why is this qualification the most suitable?

This is one of two VTCT qualifications in Indian head Massage at level 3. Whilst both qualifications will qualify you to become a specialist Indian head massage therapist this qualification allows you to gather evidence in a realistic or real working environment without the need for real paying clients. In contrast, the VTCT Level 3 NVQ Award in Indian Head Massage requires you to work in a commercial environment whereby assessments must be carried out on real paying clients in line with commercial service times.

You will also develop a range of technical skills enabling you to prepare the body, use a stone heater and place stones and provide relaxing massage treatments using basalt stones and a variety of techniques. You will also develop interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicate effectively with clients.

You will develop a range of technical skills enabling you to provide relaxing massage treatments using classical Swedish massage movements. You will also develop interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicate effectively with clients.

This is VTCT’s only stand-alone qualification in Swedish massage therapy at Level 3 and it will qualify you to become a beauty (Swedish massage) therapist.

VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments

Who is this qualification for?

The VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments is an advanced qualification that has been specifically designed for beauty therapists.

This qualification is based on beauty therapy National Occupational Standards (NOS). This qualification is approved and supported by the Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority (HABIA), the standard setting body for hair, beauty, nails and spa qualifications.

Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of a Level 3 qualification in a relevant discipline prior to undertaking this qualification. Your centre will have ensured that you have the required knowledge, understanding and skills to enrol and successfully achieve this qualification.

Why is this qualification most suitable?

This qualification is the only Level 4 qualification offered by VTCT in Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments. The VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments is a vocationally related qualification and is focused on reducing hair growth and photo rejuvenation of the skin using intense pulse light and laser treatments. This qualification requires you to develop skills to carry out IPL and laser treatments. This qualification allows you to gather evidence in a realistic working environment or real working environment without the need for fee paying clients.

What does this qualification cover?

This qualification has been specifically designed for the 18+ age groups, builds on existing knowledge and understanding of therapy skills and will develop an enhanced repertoire of technical skills to prepare you for employment. You will have your skills assessed in a real or realistic working environment.

This qualification will require research; it includes the skills involved in providing a thorough consultation with the client to formulate a specific course of treatment, tailored to suit individual client needs, use laser an light treatments for skin rejuvenation and hair removal and to manage the health, safety and security of the salon. Course Overview

The rationale of the programme is to provide a career path for learners who wish to develop their aesthetic practice capabilities within the health and aesthetic sector. The expected outcome of the Certificate, which is the achievement of a recognised UK qualification, is for learners to develop the skills required by organisations and the aesthetic industry globally.

This qualification will prepare learners for employment and support a range of roles in the workplace. This qualification provides a specialist work-related programme of study that provides breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding, along with practical skills required in the aesthetics sector. This qualification will help to prepare professional staff and managers of the future in the aesthetics sector. This qualification provides a generic core of mandatory units that apply in all aesthetics contexts.

Qualifi Level 4 Certificate in Aesthetics Practice

Course Overview

The aim of the QUALIFI Level 4 Diploma in Aesthetic Procedures for Skin Rejuvenation and associated Certificates is to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills to carry out advanced beauty therapy/aesthetic procedures, enabling learners to gain the necessary skills and essential underpinning knowledge to work commercially as a Practitioner. The Diploma will also provide opportunities for learners to develop the necessary occupational skills and competencies to progress directly into employment or to further study. Learners will develop practical skills for a career in Advanced Beauty Therapy/Aesthetic field.

To achieve this qualification a learner must successfully complete the four mandatory units – 35 credits:

Learning Outcomes

1. Health, safety, and hygiene for aesthetic procedures – learners will be able to apply their knowledge and understanding of implementing the essential health, safety and hygiene measures when preparing for and throughout delivery of the aesthetic procedures.

2. Client consultation for aesthetic procedures – underpins the practical technical units within the qualification/s. Learners will be able to conduct a concise consultation to determine and/or adapt the required procedure/s to meet the client’s needs and achieve the desired outcome/s.

3. Skin rejuvenation using microneedling – learners will be able to use automated and hand-held microneedling devices to rejuvenate the face and body skin condition and reduce or remove skin imperfections and mild pigmentary conditions.

4. Skin rejuvenation using superficial chemical peels – learners will be able to choose the correct superficial chemical peels to rejuvenate the skin and reduce or remove skin imperfections and mild pigmentary conditions.

Entry Requirements

Approved Centres are responsible for reviewing and making decisions as to the applicant’s ability to complete the learning programme successfully and meet the demands of the qualification. The initial assessment by the centre will need to consider the support that is readily available or can be made available to meet individual learner needs as appropriate.

The qualification has been designed to be accessible without artificial barriers that restrict access. For this qualification, applicants must be aged 18 or over, who have achieved a Level 3 qualification or apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy or have equivalent qualifications and/or substantial industry experience for direct entry to Level 4.

For direct entry to the QUALIFI Level 4 Diploma in Aesthetic Procedures for Skin Rejuvenation the unit AP301 Skincare to support aesthetic procedures must be selected as one of the optional units to ensure learners have the essential underpinning knowledge for the various aesthetic procedure units within the qualification.

The aesthetic practitioner must have a First Aid at Work qualification or equivalent and be able to carry out the functions within SFHCHS36: Basic life support and know where to access life support equipment as identified in the complication management plan.

Qualifi Level 4 Diploma in Aesthetic Procedures for Skin Rejuvenation

Course Overview

The aim of the QUALIFI Level 4 Diploma in Aesthetic Procedures for Skin Rejuvenation and associated Certificates is to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills to carry out advanced beauty therapy/aesthetic procedures, enabling learners to gain the necessary skills and essential underpinning knowledge to work commercially as a Practitioner. The Diploma will also provide opportunities for learners to develop the necessary occupational skills and competencies to progress directly into employment or to further study. Learners will develop practical skills for a career in Advanced Beauty Therapy/Aesthetic field.

To achieve this qualification a learner must select and successfully complete eight units. This includes all five mandatory units, and a minimum of three units from the optional section. A minimum of 58 credits:

The qualification has been designed to be accessible without artificial barriers that restrict access. For this qualification, applicants must be aged 18 or over, who have achieved a Level 3 qualification or apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy or have equivalent qualifications and/or substantial industry experience for direct entry to Level 4.

For direct entry to the QUALIFI Level 4 Diploma in Aesthetic Procedures for Skin Rejuvenation the unit AP301 Skincare to support aesthetic procedures must be selected as one of the optional units to ensure learners have the essential underpinning knowledge for the various aesthetic procedure units within the qualification.

Qualifi Level 4 Certificate in Anatomy and Physiology for Aesthetics Practice

Course Overview

The Certificate provides learners with the knowledge and understanding of Anatomy and Physiology, focusing on the science to support the judgments and choices made routinely by practising aestheticians. The Certificate will enable learners to work independently and intuitively, with science at the core of the decision- making process. The Certificate will also provide opportunities for learners to develop the necessary competencies to move on to further study or employment.

Entry Requirements

This qualification is designed for learners aged 18 and above. Entry to the Qualifi Level 4 Certificate in Anatomy and Physiology for Aesthetic Practice is through previous achievement of a Level 3 qualification in a relevant discipline. Centres are responsible for ensuring that this qualification is appropriate for the ability of learners and that the learner has the required knowledge, understanding and skills to effectively achieve this qualification.

The qualification has been designed to be accessible without artificial barriers that restrict access and progression. Entry to the qualification will be through centre interview and learners will be assessed on an individual basis.

In certain circumstances, individuals with considerable experience but no formal qualifications may be considered, subject to interview and being able to demonstrate their ability to cope with the demands of the programme.

Qualifi Level 3 Certificate in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology

Course Overview

The Level 3 Diploma qualification has been created primarily to provide a coherent programme of delivery for training centres providing the off-the-job training to apprentices registered on the Wellbeing and Holistic Therapist standard. The qualification translates the skills, knowledge and behaviours detailed in the apprenticeship standard into units and assessment criteria using the related NOS (national occupational standard). The qualification can also stand alone to equip learners with the necessary practical skills, knowledge and understanding to gain employment within the beauty, spa, wellness and holistic industry.

Course Overview

These practical and knowledge-based qualifications have been developed to enable Beauty Therapists to advance their occupational skills and competences through the acquisition of higher level techniques. The purpose is improved employability by increasing the range of treatments that can be provided, in particular: consultation and profiling, body massage, facial electrotherapy, body electrotherapy, epilation, lash lifting and brow lamination, advanced lash extensions and intimate waxing. The qualifications will enable beauty therapists to gain confidence in practice while gathering evidence in a realistic working environment.

The rationale for the Diploma and Certificates is to provide recognition for those who wish to gain the necessary occupational skills to gain employment within the beauty and spa industries. The Qualifi Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Beauty Therapy and associated Certificates are suitable for those progressing from a Level 2 Beauty Therapy qualification or from the Level 2 Beauty Therapist apprenticeship.

Course Overview

This range of practical and knowledge-based qualifications have been created to develop and equip therapists with skills, competencies and expertise in beauty therapy treatments – primarily relating to the face, hands and feet. These qualifications will also enable therapists to gain confidence in practice while gathering evidence in a realistic working environment.

The rationale for the qualifications is to provide recognition for those who wish to gain the necessary skills to enter employment in the beauty industry. Qualifi Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy is suitable for those progressing from Level 1 in Beauty Therapy as well as those new to the industry.

Who is this qualification for?

The VTCT (ITEC) Level 3 Certificate in Access to Aesthetic Therapies is a beauty therapy qualification aimed at learners with no formal background in beauty therapy training, who wish to gain access to additional study of advanced therapy treatments at levels 4 and above.

What does this qualification cover?

This qualification consists of units at level 2 and 3 combined to provide the learner with the required underpinning knowledge to afford direct progression onto specific modality training at level 4 +.
